Senior Lecturer in Piano (jazz)
After graduating in 1991 from Malmö Academy of Music, Jan Lundgren has developed into one of the world's most in-demand jazz pianists. His trio with Mattias Svensson and latterly Zoltan Csörsz made its breakthrough in 1997 with the album "Swedish Standards", which also entered the pop charts. The album "European Standards" was released in the spring of 2009.
Jan has performed and recorded in collaborations with musicians such as Richard Galliano, Paolo Fresu, Johnny Griffin, Lars Danielsson, Joe LaBarbera, Lee Konitz and Georg Riedel. More than half of his 100-120 concert performances each year are abroad. Jan has a record contract with the German label ACT, whose other Swedish artists include Nils Landgren and Ulf Wakenius. Since 1994, he has recorded about 40 albums under his own name and played as a sideman on over 100.
In 2007, he became the first and only Nordic jazz pianist to be named a "Steinway Artist".
Jan Lundgren has worked as a piano teacher at Malmö Academy of Music since 1991 and is also a member of The Royal Swedish Academy of Music.
