Assessment Criteria of Composition

Earlier studies on musical creativity and composition reveal that there might be a difference between the criteria by which children, students, music teachers and composers assess compositions.

The project aims at describing and comparing the criteria of composition by children, students, teachers and composers respectively. Besides giving a description of the assessment criteria of each group, an overall aim of the project is to find out whether school composition and composition outside school respectively are assessed in the same way or, if shown in the descriptions of the assessment criteria of the different groups, composition has to be regarded as a specific school phenomenon when carried out within a school context.
Accordingly, the present project involves three research studies, each of which investigating one of the three groups: (a) children/students, (b) music teachers, and (c) composition students/composers.
