Composition Diploma
The Master’s programme in Music, Composition Diploma is aimed at students who want to develop their artistry as a composer with a focus on Western contemporary art music. The programme aims to train future composers with great artistic and professional ability through a specialised education in composition focusing on highly qualified tasks.
The programme involves in-depth studies and specialisation in orchestral composition and other major projects in collaboration with professional institutions and ensembles. This places great demands on work discipline and responsibility.
After completing the programme, you shall have well-developed knowledge and skills as well as a personal aesthetic and the ability to create music at a high artistic level. Furthermore, you shall have acquired in-depth knowledge of composition for varying instrumental ensembles and shall be prepared to work and act independently on a professional level. You shall also have developed the ability to study in a self-directed or independent way. Teaching in composition is given in the form of individual lessons and seminars. Projects and degree project are included.
One of the most indispensable and unique features of the Malmö Academy of Music is the capacity to deliver many performance opportunities every year. This is the basis for the efficient development of a composer’s concrete relationship with music itself.
The Master’s programme in Music, Composition Diploma, collaborates with leading orchestras, ensembles and musicians, such as the Malmö, Norrköping, Gävle and Helsingborg symphony orchestras, the Swedish Wind Ensemble, Jönköping Sinfonietta and Musica Vitae. Therefore, the students have the opportunity during their studies to build up an extensive network of contacts.
Connect Festival is a contemporary music festival organised by the students.
