PERFORMANCE PROGRAMME IN MUSIC
Key dates for your application
- Apply for the programme at antagning.se
Application period: 2 December 2024 – 15 January 2025.
- Confirm your eligibility. Deadline for supporting documentation to confirm your eligibility is 27 January 2025.
- Round 1. Upload your work samples by January 22, 2025. A jury will evaluate the work samples, and successful applicants will proceed to Round 2. The invitation to Round 2 will be sent to the email address you provided when you applied for the programme.
- Round 2. Takes place on-site at Malmö Academy of Music during week 10, 2025. Date and time are stated in the invitation.
- Admission decision (first selection): 10 April 2025 on My pages at antagning.se
- Deadline for accepting your place: 24 April 2025 on My pages at antagning.se
- Admission decision (second selection): 7 May 2025 on My pages at antagning.se
Admission test
The admission test consists of two rounds. Round 1 is conducted remotely and consists of you uploading work samples. If you pass, you will be invited to Round 2, which takes place on-site at Malmö Academy of Music during week 10.
WORK SAMPLES
Round 1 (uploaded work samples)
You must upload:
- 3-4 of your own recorded music examples, at least one of which must be in video format, representing your musical area and focus. Format: MP3 for audio files or MP4 for video files.
- Description of your recorded music examples (PDF). Answer the following questions:
- Who composed the music?
- Who performs the music?
- What is your role in the music on the recordings (own group/sideman)?
- What context is the work sample taken from? (own recording, project presentation, concert, rehearsal, phonogram, etc.)
- Any sheet music (and/or scores) of composed material (PDF)
- CV of musical background and current musical activities (PDF)
- Detailed explanation of the focus and purpose of your studies at Malmö Academy of Music (PDF). Describe which subjects and study areas you see as desirable for your study path throughout your entire study period (3 years). Include information about your networks and future goals.
Important:
- Ensure that the audio and video files are fully playable and that you submit them in the requested formats.
- Check that any links lead to the correct place on the web.
- Audio files sent by email or any other electronic transfer method than the one currently in use will not be accepted.
- Submitted work samples/documents will not be returned.
- The audio and video files must not be older than 2 years.
The work samples must be uploaded via the link below no later than 22 January 2025.
ADMISSION TEST
Round 2 (at Malmö Academy of Music)
- You will perform 2-3 pieces of your own chosen repertoire that clearly represent your area both musically and in terms of performance. The music is performed in the form that best suits you. However, Malmö Academy of Music does not take responsibility for any accompanying group.
- Oral presentation of study plans and study goals.
Instructions and criteria for videos
To ensure your video recordings are accepted for assessment, you must follow these instructions:
- Identification: Begin each video by identifying yourself – film your ID or passport, and your face. Clearly state which piece you will be performing.
- Framing: Your face, hands and instrument must be visible at all times.
- Recording: Perform and record one (1) piece/audition task per film. No technical edits are allowed.
- Audio quality: Use your phone's microphone or an external room microphone. The sound should be of good quality, without excessive room acoustics, distortion, or noise.
- Video quality: The video recordings must have good image quality with good contrast and light.
- File format: You must upload the recordings in MP4 format. Other file formats are not allowed. Your folder with work samples must not exceed 5 GB.
If the instructions are not followed, or if the video files are deemed to be modified, your work samples may be considered invalid.
How to upload your work samples
- Read the information carefully to ensure you send the correct files in the correct format.
- Make sure you have applied for the programme at antagning.se or universityadmissions.se
Prepare your video files
- Save your video files in MP4 format.
- Name each file with the title and number, your initials (first name + surname, two letters each), your date of birth (YY/MM/DD) and your instrument. Separate the data with underscores (_).
- Example: Video1_JeSm_990230_flute (for Jessica Smith, born 1999-02-30, applying for flute).
- The next file should be named Video2_ JeSm_990230_your instrument, and so on.
Create a ZIP file
- Create a folder on your computer and name it according to the format: Your instrument_Full name_Date of birth (YY/MM/DD)
- Example: Flute_JessicaSmith_990230
- Example: Flute_JessicaSmith_990230
- Place all video files in the folder and compress it into a ZIP file. Do not use RAR, as we cannot open that format.
- The folder must not exceed 5 GB.
Upload your ZIP file
- Open the upload link (found further down this page).
- Select or drag the ZIP file from your computer.
- Enter the same email address you used when you applied for the programme at antagning.se or universityadmissions.se
- Click Upload.
Once the upload is complete, you will receive a confirmation in your browser. Do not close the browser until the upload is finished.
