PERFORMANCE PROGRAMME IN MUSIC | MASTER'S LEVEL

Key dates for your application

  1. Apply for the programme at universityadmissions.se
    Application period: 1 December 2025 – 15 January 2026
     
  2. Confirm your eligibility. Deadline for supporting documentation to confirm your eligibility is 26 January 2026.
     
  3. Invitation to admission test is sent to the email address you provided when you applied for the programme.
     
  4. Repertoire list and a written CV/resumé should be sent by email to admissions [at] mhm [dot] lu [dot] se no later than 16th February 2026.
     
  5. Admission test at Malmö Academy of Music and Malmö Opera will take place during week 10, 2026.
     
  6. Admission decision (first selection): 15 April 2026 on My pages at www.universityadmissions.se
     
  7. Deadline for accepting your place: 28 April 2026 on My pages at www.universityadmissions.se
     
  8. Admission decision (second selection): 7 May 2026 on My pages at www.universityadmissions.se

Admission test

The admission test consists of two rounds. The first round takes place at Malmö Academy of Music, while the second is conducted at Malmö Opera.

Remember to bring a written CV/biography detailing your previous studies.


Round 1

During the test, you will perform:

  • Two solo pieces of your choice. One must be a movement from a classic style sonata and the other must be a piece from the Romantic period.
  • Two mandatory opera arias, to be performed together with singers, of which at least one must be in Swedish. These required pieces will be included in the audition invitation.

After Part 1, the jury will announce which candidates proceed to Part 2.


Round 2

During the test, you will perform:

  • an opera excerpt provided on the first day, to be studied and performed with singers in front of the jury without prior rehearsal.
  • a compulsory opera ensemble piece, performed with singers and a conductor.
  • an a vista test in singing, in which you accompany yourself
  • an a vista test, piano
  • an interview

Malmö Opera provides singers and a conductor for the compulsory components.

Eligibility and Selection

To be eligible for the program, you must:

  • Meet the general entry requirements for higher education and be able to present a Bachelor’s degree in Music or equivalent at the start of your studies.
  • Meet the specific entry requirement by achieving approved results in all qualifying tests (entrance tests).

Selection is based on the results of the entrance examinations.

Assessment criteria for the main instruments:
The assessment is based on two main areas: technical proficiency and artistic expression.
To receive a passing result, applicants must demonstrate a sufficient level in both areas. Applicants are then ranked according to the level they have achieved.
