Exchange Studies

We are delighted that you are planning to study at the Malmö Academy of Music.

The criterias for an exchange with us are:

  • Your home university have a formal agreement for exchange studies with Malmö Academy of Music (Lund University). 
  • Your home university nominates you to an exchange (before you start your application).
  • You must have sufficient knowledge of English. It is recommended that your level of English language proficiency is equivalent to IELTS 6.5/TOEFL 90. Please check with your home university regarding the required levels to be nominated for an exchange to Lund University.

Malmö Academy of Music has joined the AEC online application system EASY Dream Apply. Be prepared to upoad a reecording or video of about twenty minutes with pieces in different styles, a CV, Transcript of Records and a personal letter.

Nominated exchange students can apply for so-called 'Special Area Study' (SAS) courses in a wide range of subjects across eight out of nine faculties at Lund University.

The Courses are also available for non-exchange students with the purpose of building a common platform for discussions between Swedish and international students. 

Once you have been nominated for an exchange to Lund University, you can apply for SAS courses as part of your online application for exchange studies. If you have questions, please contact the person who signed your Letter of Acceptance at Lund University.

  • SASL03 (autumn) / SASL04 (spring) Ensemble Music at Odeum 7,5 ECTS.
    The course takes part in one of the university orchestras and choirs, Lund University Academic Orchestra, Lund Academic Choir or Lund University Brass band. The course aims at singers and musicians on a high non-professional level. The student has to pass an audition in the beginning of the autumn semester to be accepted for the course. 
     
  • SASL06 Arabic Rythms, 7,5 ECTS

    The purpose of this course is for the students to gain basic knowledge in the field of Arabic rythms together with basic techniques in playing the instruments rek, dag and darbouka-drums. During the course we will also perform exercises in improvisation and music listening. The teaching will be carried out by ear. We will end the course with a common drum session presentation. 
     
  • SASL08 Swedish Folkmusic, 7,5 ECTS
    The course is aimed at instrumentalists with good playing habits (not beginners). Primarily violin players or instruments that allow other intonation practices in addition to equal-floating tempering. The teaching is auditory-based, but notes may occur. The repertoire consists primarily of traditional western Swedish music from different eras.

The study programmes in Performance and Composition offer a wide variety of specializations that prepare musicians and composers for a professional career within different fields of music. Students in the performance programmes will find a study environment that promotes the highest possible development of their artistic potential.

The teaching consists of individual and group teaching sessions, seminars, visiting lectures, workshops/master classes as well as individual assignments (exercises, preparations). Students also play in ensembles of different sizes and in different settings, and students on orchestral instrument will also participate in the Malmö Academy of Music Symphony Orchestra, which does six productions each academic year.

The teaching staff on the performance programmes are all distinguished musicians with prominent music careers, both
nationally and internationally, as soloists, ensemble/orchestra musicians or composers.

The following should be sent/uploaded to Malmö Academy of Music together with the application form:

Music Teacher Education

At the Music Teacher Education we focus on developing both your pedagogical and artistic skills. Our ambition is that you will get as much classes as possible together with our Swedish students. You will receive individual lessons on your main instrument, guitar/piano and vocals. You are free to choose among our elective courses in a dialoge with your home University. Read more about Exchange studies at the Music Teacher Education.

When applying you need to state in which genre you want to study. Note that you need to study this genre at your home University. The genres/specialisation are: Jazz, Folk/worldmusic, Pop/Rock, Classical, Singer-songwriter, Vocal mixed genre.

As an exchange student at the MusicTeacher Education you can apply for studies during the autumn semester or for the whole academic year. We offer no admission during spring semester only.
