Exchange Studies

We are delighted that you are planning to study at the Malmö Academy of Music.

The criterias for an exchange with us are:

  • Your home university have a formal agreement for exchange studies with us (Malmö Academy of Music) or Lund University. 
  • Your home university nominates you to an exchange (before you start your application).
  • You must have sufficient knowledge of English.

The teacher education department offers a number of courses for exchange students. You can choose among courses below to match your own study plan. The number of credit points depend on whether you study one or two semesters and what priority and extent you give the course. Your combination of courses should correspond with the study plan at your home university.

Courses to choose 

The following Special Area Courses are also avilable for non-exchange students with the purpose of building a common platform for discussions between Swedish and international students. 

SASL03 Ensemble Music at Odeum (Orchestra playing or choir singing) 7,5 ECTS
The course is studied during the autumn semester as participation in one of the university orchestras and choirs, Lund University Academic Orchestra, Lund Academic Choir or Lund University Brass band. The course aims at singers and musicians on a high non-professional level. The student has to pass an audition in the beginning of the autumn semester to be accepted for the course. 

SASL04 Ensemble Music at Odeum (Orchestra playing or choir singing) 7,5 ECTS
The course is studied during the spring semester as participation in one of the university orchestras and choirs, Lund University Academic Orchestra, Lund Academic Choir or Lund University Brass band. The course aims at singers and musicians on a high non-professional level. The student has to pass an audition in the beginning of the spring semester to be accepted for the course. The course takes place in Lund, evening time during Spring 2021.

SASL06 Arabic Rythms, 7,5 ECTS
The purpose of this course is for the students to gain basic knowledge in the field of Arabic rythms together with basic techniques in playing the instruments rek, dag and darbouka-drums. The students will learn how to play different arabic rythms (ballad, said, lee, maksoum, falls, masmoudi, adani, chobi, kat, kati, karat chi, nahawaht) in different ways. During the course we will also perform exercises in improvisation and music listening. The teaching will be carried out by ear. We will end the course with a common drum session presentation.

Malmö Academy of Music has joined the AEC online application system, EASY. Be prepared to upload a recording or video of about twenty minutes with pieces in different styles, a CV, Transcript of Records and a personal letter.

Note to candidates for classical trumpet
Please note that candidates for classical trumpet are required to do a live audition. The audition takes place at the Academy of Music in the beginning of March. Please contact admissions [at] mhm [dot] lu [dot] se to register for the audition. 

Note to applicants in composition
The following should be sent/uploaded to Malmö Academy of Music together with the application form:

1 - four to six (4-6) scores representing various ensemble types as orchestra, chamber orchestra, minor chamber groups, choir and the electroacoustic medium
2 - live or MIDI recordings if possible
3 - work note for each piece
4 - complete work list
5 - CV
6 - few words about why you want to study composition at Malmö Academy of Music
