Jazz/Improvisation

BACHELOR'S PROGRAMME IN MUSIC · 180 CREDITS · 3 YEARS

Are you interested in developing your musical voice and becoming a jazz musician? The Bachelor's programme in Jazz/Improvisation offers you the opportunity to immerse yourself in the world of jazz and discover your own unique style.

In the Bachelor's programme in Jazz/Improvisation, you will have the opportunity to find and develop your own musical voice, while gaining the practical knowledge needed for a future career in jazz and improvisational music. You will be offered studies in a creative and open environment with great opportunities to influence the content of the education. At Malmö Academy of Music, we take a broad view of the concept of jazz, which today encompasses a spectrum of different musical expressions and encounters. For us, crossing genres is a natural part of the development of jazz.

The programme often features prominent guest teachers. The teaching varies from shorter clinics to several weeks of guest teaching in ensemble blocks. During project weeks, there is always one or more guest musicians teaching. Here, a wide range of genres is offered. The regular teachers in the programme are all active as professional jazz musicians.

The programme consists of both compulsory and elective courses. The academic year is structured with weeks for scheduled teaching, project weeks, self-study weeks, and weeks for exams and assignments. Teaching takes place both individually and in groups. Instrumental teaching includes individual lessons on the main instrument, joint lessons, seminars, and individual study. Upon completion of the programme, you will receive a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Music, Jazz/Improvisation.
