Performance Programmes in Music ⎢Master's Level
During their studies, classical pianists should develop an autonomous ability to plan, use and evaluate their musical ability. In consultation with the piano teacher, both short-term and long-term goals are to be formulated concerning, for example, repertoire and piano technique. A pianist must also be able to integrate with their environment and have an understanding of the life in music that awaits on completion of their studies.
Master’s programme in music
The piano tuition at the Malmö Academy of Music has the following focus areas:
• to provide the student with tools to analyse and perform repertoires from a variety of eras
• to develop the student’s ability to rehearse so that rehearsals are as efficient as possible
• to pay attention to the student’s individual conditions and learning style
• to provide the student with opportunities to practise their public performance ability and to gain knowledge and skills concerning the psychological aspects of performance and learning, Performance Centre
• to develop perceptiveness and collaborative skills as a chamber musician
As a piano student you get individual lessons as well as group lessons. Chamber music lessons will be added.

Please note, that to meet the entry requirements for Master’s level, you have to be able to demonstrate a Bachelor’s degree in Music or equivalent at the beginning of the semester.
Pianists can go on to further study in the following specialisations at the Malmö Academy of Music:
The diploma programme at the Malmö Academy of Music is unique in Sweden, due to its collaboration with the Malmö and Helsingborg Symphony Orchestras and other regional professional ensembles.
Assessment takes place through a solo concert/recital, a chamber music concert and a solo performance with a professional symphony orchestra.
Master’s programme, Music Drama – Répétiteur
One of the main areas of work for a pianist is as a répétiteur. On completion of the bachelor’s programme in music, piano students in Malmö have the opportunity to apply for the Master’s programme specialising as a répétiteur.
The two-year programme is intended for pianists of a high artistic level and ability, and aims to prepare the student for a professional career as a répétiteur in opera and musical theatre. The degree project takes place through an internship at Malmö Opera.
Supplementary programme for pianists
Supplementary programme specialising in music, Music teacher training, 90 credits
The course is intended for students with a degree of Bachelor in Music or Church Music (180 credits). The available specialisations are primary and secondary schools, municipal music and arts schools as well as adult education colleges, and leads to a Master’s degree in music education. Read more
Art teacher training initiative Kulturskoleklivet
The government has invested in new places in programmes of specific relevance to music and arts schools. Lund University is one of only six higher education institutions to receive the government funding, and the Faculty of Fine and Performing Arts has both the artistic and teaching expertise required to educate teachers for music and arts schools in development.
This programme is intended for students who have expertise in an artistic field but who lack teacher training. Many pianists have called for this particular opportunity to gain expertise in teaching at music and arts schools. Read more
