Why the Malmö Academy of Music?
Teaching staff of the highest standard
Alongside their teaching activities, members of our teaching staff also work as musicians who are active in the professional music and cultural scene, many with international careers as musicians and composers. Go to "Contact" and read more about them and see for yourself. In addition, we are visited by approximately 50 internatioanl guest instructors annually. They guarantee extra input into your studies at the Academy.
The Academy also boasts a large international network of contacts which gives excellent opportunities for partaking on exchange programmes.
A lot of time spent with instructors
Schedules are concentrated and intensive and a lot of time is spent with instructors, both individually and in groups. Chamber music, ensemble and orchestra practice also make up an important part of your time spent at the Academy. We like our students to spend a lot of time with their instructors.
The Performance Programme has its own symphony orchestra which is led by internationally active guest conductors. Its repertoire includes classical, romantic and contemporary msuic. The orchestra performs annually in the Malmö Live Concert House and has a well-established collaboration with the Malmö Opera Orchestra. Read more about the Orchestra.
The Sympony Orchestra goes on tour every two years and in 2014 it toured in Polen and Germany under the direction of Samuli Örnströmer.
World class practice facilities
Practice makes perfekt! There is a practice room for every five students at the Academy, which is a very high ratio if you compare to other institutions. If you also include the teaching rooms, which students are welcome to practice in once classes are over, then the possibilities are truly fantastic.
Since the Academy is open sixteen hours a day, plus weekends, there are always students around. And with a lot of people and music you cannot help but enjoy the Academy´s fantastic atmosphere.
The Academy offers our students a creative and stimulating study environment. The atmosphere between the teaching staff and the students is engaged, yet relaxed. Students and teachers meet daily in the Academy´s café to drink coffee and take part in discussions predominantly concerning the subject of music.
