Education

Malmö Academy of Music welcomes students who want to work professionally as musicians, church musicians, composers or music teachers. We offer a creative, stimulating and international environment with the passion for music and learning as our core.

We have both bachelor's and master's programmes as well as independent courses, preparing you for a career as a professional musician on a growing freelance market. 

The music teacher education qualifies you to teach in primary, lower-secondary and upper secondary school. It also qualifies you for teaching at a culture or music school.

Malmö Academy of Music offers education with great opportunities to realize your own goals and at the same time build a strong professional and vocational identity as a musician and/or music teacher. All our programmes are high-quality vocational educations conducted by professional university lecturers with deep knowledge and experience from working as a professional musicians.  

Our university lecturers

Our educations maintain a high artistic and pedagogical level and are based on the students personal development and the interaction between student and lecturer. We have about two hundred lecturers and many of them are performing musicians and composers themselves, several with international careers.
In addition we also have international guest lectureres each year, who bring influences from around the world to our students. 

Teaching staff and doctoral students

World-class practice facilities

Practice makes perfect! For every five student there is a practice room and you are also welcome to practice in lecture rooms after classes. The timetables are intense with both individual and group lessons. Furthermore, a significant part of the time spent at the academy is devoted to chamber music, ensemble and orchestra practice.

The academy is open sixteen hours a day, also during weekends, and there are always peer students around to play music and socialise with in the friendly atmosphere that characterises the academy.

Collaboration

The Academy of Music has a large network of contacts with the surrounding music and cultural life and close collaborations with both concert halls and various institutions. We also have established international collaborations with reputable universities and music academies, especially in the Nordic countries and Europe. Studying abroad may enrich your education with new experiences and perspectives and we receive both students and guest lecturers through our exchange program.
