Piano | classical specialisation
The Bachelor's programme in music with a focus on classical piano is a three-year full-time university education. During this programme, you will develop your ability to independently plan, execute, and evaluate your musical knowledge.
In consultation with the principal teacher, both short-term and long-term goals will be formulated regarding, for example, repertoire and piano technique. You will also be trained to interact with your surroundings and understand the music life that awaits after your studies. The piano instruction has the following main focus areas:
- to provide students with tools to analyze and interpret repertoire from various periods
- to develop the student's ability to learn so that the learning process is as efficient as possible
- to take into account the student's individual conditions and learning style
- to give students opportunities to practice their performance skills and gain knowledge and skills regarding the psychological aspects of performing and learning: Performance Centre
- to develop sensitivity and collaborative skills in chamber music contexts
The programme includes:
- Instrumental Studies
You will have the opportunity to deepen your knowledge of your main instrument. Through regular individual lessons, masterclasses, and group lessons, you will develop both technical skills and your artistic expression.
- Chamber Music
A central part of the education is chamber music, where you will have the opportunity to play together with other students in smaller ensembles and develop your musical sensitivity and communication skills.
- Projects
The piano class is regularly visited by Professor Tuija Hakkila from the Sibelius Academy, who come to give masterclasses. Here you get the oppertunity to practise repertoire that you want to work on in more depth, for example for competitions or concerts. Projects can also be special thematic collaborations, such as working with the composition students on newly written music, or the singing class focusing on specific composers.
- Ear Training and Harmony
You will develop your skills in identifying and analysing musical structures, which are fundamental to understanding and interpreting music in depth.
- Music and Society
The courses in "Music and Society" explore the role and impact of music in various societal and cultural contexts.
- Music as a Profession
