Symphony Orchestra Instrument

The bachelor's program in music - symphony orchestra instruments is a three-year, full-time university education aimed at those who want to deepen their technical and artistic skills in Western art music. The training includes both individual lessons, ensemble and theoretical courses.

The program includes:

• Instrumental studies:
  You will have the opportunity to immerse yourself in your main instrument under the guidance of experienced teachers. Through regular individual lessons, masterclasses and group lessons you develop both technical skills and your artistic expression.
   
• Musical Studies and interpretation:
  You regularly work together with your teacher/pianist to develop a deeper understanding of the music you perform, with a focus on both technical precision and artistic interpretation.
   
• Chamber music:
  A central part of the education is chamber music, where you get the opportunity to play together with other students in smaller ensembles and develop your musical sensitivity and your communication skills.
   
• Symphonic Orchestral Studies:
  You also participate in the Academy of Music's symphony orchestra. The orchestra performs around six productions each academic year, which gives you as a student valuable experience of playing in a larger ensemble under the direction of professional conductors. Concerts are given around the region on stages such as Malmö Live, Helsingborgs Konserthus and Tivoli's concert hall in Copenhagen. This provides practical insights into orchestral repertoire and the demands placed on an orchestral musician.
   
• Music Theory
  Here you develop your skills in identifying and analyzing musical structures, which are fundamental to understanding and interpreting music in depth.
   
• Piano
  During your first year of study, you will receive instruction in basic piano playing.
   
• Music and society
  The courses in Music and society explore the role and impact of music in various social and cultural contexts.
   
• Music as a profession
  In the course Music as a profession, you get a thorough insight into the professional aspects of musical life. The course prepares you for a career as a musician.
   
• Degree project (sounding and reflective part)
  The performance part (exam concert) constitutes 75% of your degree project. In the exam concert, your artistic and technical expressiveness is made visible. The reflective part makes up 25% of your thesis. The work is based on your own artistic practice and presented in a format of your choice: written format, live format or pre-recorded format.
