Vocal and Drama Studies

Malmö Opera Academy

The Master of Fine Arts in Vocal and Drama Studies at Malmö Academy of Music is offered in close collaboration with Malmö Opera. The two-year programme is aimed for singers with a high artistic level and ability, and aims to prepare you for professional activities as a opera singer.

Here you are given the opportunity to develop musically and dramatically among musicians, singers and conductors in the opera house – a completely unique education for Sweden at the highest artistic level.

In parallel with vocal studies, interpretation, music drama, movement and more, you participate in Malmö Opera's activities. This gives you a unique opportunity in Sweden throughout the study period to continuously gain insight into the singer's various tasks and professional opportunities at a professional institution, in parallel with a number of course elements in the field of music drama at the Malmö Academy of Music.

After completing the programmme, you as a student will have the opportunity to assimilate musical instruction at a high level, gained in-depth insights into the work at a major opera house, extensive practical experience of stage productions, as well as complete role studies and rehearsal repertoire in your voice – to be ready for professional life as an opera singer in an international labor market.

Because Malmö Academy of Music is part of Lund University, there is also the strength in having a close connection to the Faculty of Arts, which also includes the Theater Academy and the Academy of Fine Arts, as well as the Inter Arts Center. This opens up for exciting joint projects and collaboration opportunities.
