Higher seminar with Michael Edgerton Wednesday, February 5, 2020, 3-5 pm in Y208
The Higher Seminar at Malmö Academy of Music presents ongoing senior research and is open to all.
Noise is a multi-faceted phenomenon that affects us in ways both positive and negative. I will discuss noise within my compositions and discuss how fine-tuned noises are an inherent part of our everyday life, from music-making & hearing to the languages we use to bicycles and cars. The tools we borrow from acoustics and perception will inform our view of the world and perhaps even serve as generative processes for art production.
Michael Edgerton is an active composer with performances around the world. His compositions have received international prizes and recognition. As composer, researcher and performer, he has presented new developments in the search for the limits of sound production. Notably, he has systematically investigated extra-normal singing using the tools of voice science and psychoacoustics. Michael holds a D.M.A. in Composition from the University of Illinois and is since 2019 Professor of Artistic Research at Lund University/the Malmö Academy of Music.
