Performance Studies – Répétiteur

INDEPENDENT COURSE | 1 year | 60 ECTS CREDITS

This course is designed for pianists with a high artistic level and strong musical ability. It prepares you for a professional career as a répétiteur in opera and musical theatre.

You will receive instruction in piano, recitative and score reading, conducting (both individual and ensemble), singing, harpsichord, and music history. The course also offers valuable opportunities to collaborate with guest coaches, singers, répétiteurs, and conductors associated with Malmö Opera’s current productions.

  2. Confirm your eligibility. Deadline for supporting documentation to confirm your eligibility is 25 January 2023.
     
  3. Admission test will take place at Malmö Academy of Music week 10, 2023. Date and time will be sent to email address you provided when you applied for the course.

Admission test

The admission test consists of two rounds, which are both conducted at Malmö Academy of Music. You must pass Round 1 to proceed to Round 2.


First round
You perform:

  • two pieces of solo music you choose yourself. One piece should be a fast movement from a classic style sonata, and the other one a piece from the romantic period.
  • one obligatory opera aria which is performed together with a singer.

Second  Round
You perform:

  • one opera extract which you must study together with singers in front of the jury without previous rehearsal.
  • one obligatory opera ensemble performed with singer and conductor.
  • one a prima vista sample which you are to sing.
  • one a prima vista sample, piano.
  • an interview.

Entry requirements

To be admitted to the course, you must have completed at least 90 credits from studies at a music academy or equivalent institution. You must also pass the admission test.
