Sven Midgren is a trained musician and music teacher with a degree from Malmö Academy of Music as an instrumental and ensemble teacher and a master's degree in Nordic folk music at KMH in Stockholm. Since autumn 2024, he has been working as a doctoral student at Malmö Academy of Music, with a project that examines the relationship between folk music pedagogy and the practice of Kulturskolan (the Swedish municipal music schools).
The project focuses partly on identifying and describing what identifies folk music pedagogy and how it has developed in Sweden since the folk music wave, and partly on investigating the interface between the cultural school and the folk music world from both teachers‘ and students’ perspectives.
