Oscar Edin | Viola

Oscar Edin

Oscar Edin graduated from Malmö Academy of Music in 2023 after diploma studies in viola with Professor Henrik Frendin. Prior to that, he completed a Bachelor's degree in violin at the University of Music and Drama in Gothenburg, followed by a Master's degree at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm.

He is currently active as an orchestral musician in Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra and as a chamber musician in the Monbijou Quartet.

The Monbijou Quartet was formed 2022 on Monbijou Street in Malmö. The following year they won Ung & Lovande– Sweden's largest chamber music competition – which gave them the opportunity to carry out a winning tour and perform in chamber music associations throughout Sweden.

The quartet has also participated in several prominent music festivals, such as Styrsö Chamber Music Festival, Sandviken Chamber Music Festival and the Crans-Montana Classics. During these festivals they had the opportunity to study with the internationally acclaimed Jerusalem Quartet, which has contributed to their artistic development and musical inspiration.

At the Karol Szymanowski International Music Competition, the Monbijou Quartet reached the final and was awarded a special prize for its interpretation of a newly written composition.

I had so many great moments at Malmö Academy of Music! Playing Vivaldi’s Summer on the viola with the string orchestra and Erik Heide was both incredibly fun and challenging. My diploma concerts were unforgettable experiences. I spent countless hours rehearsing with the Monbijou Quartet, fueled by cheap coffee from the vending machine and falafel with mixed sauce.

For me, my time at the Academy was truly formative—it was here that I found my voice as a musician and artist. None of it would have been possible without the school’s open atmosphere, the dedicated teachers, and the unwavering support from everyone around me.
