Last weekend, the Symphony Orchestra at the Malmö Academy of Music concluded this year’s tour, an extensive and highly apprec ated project carried out with support from the Einar Hansen Allhem Foundation. The tour featured musical highlights, international encounters, and artistic exchange between higher education institutions in several countries.
The tour opened with a premiere concert in Malmö, after which the orchestra continued to the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Rostock in Germany and onward to the Stanisław Moniuszko Academy of Music in Gdańsk, Poland. At each location, the orchestra was met by a large and engaged audience, and the concerts received a warm reception.
The orchestra was led during the tour by conductor Samuli Örnströmer. The programme consisted of Emilie Mayer’s dramatic Faust Overture, Max Bruch’s Violin Concerto No. 1, and Antonín Dvořák’s Symphony No. 7. The soloist in Bruch’s violin concerto was Polish violinist Maria Paluszyńska, a student at the Stanisław Moniuszko Academy of Music in Gdańsk, who participated after winning an audition at her home institution.
International exchanges and future collaborations
A central part of the tour was the artistic exchange between students from the different educational institutions. In the orchestra, guest musicians played side by side with students from the Malmö Academy of Music. In addition to the concerts, the tour also provided an opportunity for in-depth discussions with the management of the visited institutions, focusing on future collaborations.
“International tours are an important part of the operations for the Symphony Orchestra at the Malmö Academy of Music. It is of great significance for the ensemble’s own development, while also contributing to strengthening long-term relationships between artistic educational environments in Europe.” says Hans Hellsten, Head of Department, adding:
“I could personally hear how the orchestral sound grew from concert to concert during the tour, and I must say that I am immensely proud of our students’ commitment and achievements.”
A warm thank you to the foundation
The Malmö Academy of Music extends its warm thanks to the Einar Hansen Allhem Foundation for the generous support that made the tour possible – a project where musical deepening and international cooperation went hand in hand.
