Symphony Orchestra Instrument

The Master's programme in Music with a specialisation in symphonic orchestral instruments is a two-year full-time university education. It is aimed at students who have a Bachelor's degree and want to further deepen their technical and artistic skills in Western art music. The programme includes both individual lessons, masterclasses and ensemble.

The programme includes:

• Instrumental studies:
  You will have the opportunity to delve further into your main instrument under the guidance of experienced teachers. Through regular individual lessons, masterclasses and group lessons, you develop both technical skills and your artistic expression.
   
• Musical Studies and interpretation:
  You will regularly work with your teacher/pianist to develop a deeper understanding of the music you perform, focusing on both technical precision and artistic interpretation.
   
• Chamber music:
  A central part of the education is chamber music, where you get the opportunity to play together with other students in smaller ensembles and develop your musical sensitivity and your communication skills.
   
• Symphonic Orchestral Studies:
  You also participate in Malmö Academy of Music's Symphony Orchestra. The orchestra undertakes around six productions each academic year, which gives you as a student valuable experience of playing in a larger ensemble under the direction of professional conductors. Concerts are given around the region on stages such as Malmö Live, Helsingborgs Konserthus and Tivoli's concert hall in Copenhagen. This provides practical insights into orchestral repertoire as well as the demands placed on an orchestral musician.
   
• Orchestra internship
  Malmö Academy of Music collaborates with Malmö Symphony Orchestra, Malmö Opera Orchestra and Helsingborg Symphony Orchestra and can therefore offer internships to students at master's level specialising in symphonic orchestral instruments.
   
• Music as a profession
  The course 'Music as a Profession' will give you a thorough insight into the professional aspects of the music industry while preparing you for a career as a musician.
   
• Degree project (sounding and reflective part)
  The sounding part (degree concert) constitutes 75% of your degree project. In the graduation concert, your artistic and technical expressiveness is made visible. The reflective part makes up 25% of your thesis. The work is based on your own artistic practice and presented in a format of your choice: written, live or pre-recorded.
