Cantor | University Diploma Programme in Church Music
The Cantor Programme is a two-year university-level education leading to a Higher Education Diploma in Church Music, amounting to 120 ECTS credits.
The programme includes:
- Organ
The organ courses provide an in-depth understanding of the instrument's technique and repertoire. As a student, you will have the opportunity to develop skills in both liturgical and solo organ performance, as well as in improvisation. Through individual and group lessons, you will learn to master the organ in various contexts.
- Choir
This part of the programme offers practical and theoretical knowledge in choir singing and conducting. By leading different types of choirs, you will learn voice leading, repertoire selection, and pedagogical strategies. Additionally, you will gain an understanding of the choir’s role in worship services and other church settings.
- Voice
Voice training focuses on vocal technique, tonality, and expression. You will have the opportunity to work on both solo and choral singing, developing your vocal technique and your ability to interpret and perform vocal pieces. Special emphasis is placed on understanding the role of singing in liturgical contexts.
- Piano
Piano is an essential part of the programme, helping you to develop technical skills and musicality. Instruction covers both solo performance and accompaniment techniques across various genres and styles.
- Music Theory
Courses in Music Theory provide foundational knowledge in music analysis, composition, and arrangement.
- Music and Society
The courses in 'Music and Society' explore the role and impact of music in various social and cultural contexts.
- Internship and Projects
Through internship in worship services, concerts, and collaborations with other musicians, you will have various opportunities to apply your skills in real-life situations.
Please note: To obtain the Cantor Diploma, you must also complete the pastoral theological education for church musicians provided by the Church of Sweden.
