Jazz/Improvisation

BACHELOR'S PROGRAMME IN MUSIC · 180 CREDITS · 3 YEARS
Performance programmes in Jazz and Folk and World Music (subtitles available in English under settings)

The Bachelor's degree in Music, Jazz/Improvisation, gives you the knowledge needed to be able to work as a jazz musician, either as a soloist or as a member of permanent ensembles and/or free groups.

The programme aims to train musicians with high artistic and professional ability and, as a student, you will learn how to study in a largely self-directed or independent manner. Furthermore, after completing the programme, you will have acquired knowledge in entrepreneurship in order to increase the ability to change and adapt your own professional role to an ever-changing cultural scene.

The programme consists of a mix between compulsory courses and courses you choose yourself. The teaching is done individually or in groups. Instrumental teaching consists of individual main instrument teaching, joint lessons, seminars and individual teaching in rehearsal.

You will get the opportunity to develop your own musical voice but you will also get the basic practical knowledge you need for a future professional life in jazz and improvisational music. At Malmö Academy of Music you will find a creative and open work climate with good opportunities to influence large parts of your studies. We welcome a broad definition of jazz which encompasses both different eras and musical concepts.

The programme is often visited by guest teachers. The teaching is done in various forms, from shorter stints to several weeks of guest teaching in ensemble. After completing the programme, you will receive an Artistic Bachelor's degree in Music.
