Musician education, jazz, aims to educate musicians with high artistic and professional ability. After completing the education, the student must have well-developed knowledge and skills to be able to work in the various forms of working life, such as soloist or member of permanent ensembles and/or free groups. The student must also have developed the ability to study in a largely self-directed or independent manner. Furthermore, after completing their studies, the student must have acquired increased knowledge in entrepreneurship in order to increase the ability to change and adapt their own professional role in a changing cultural life.

The education consists of compulsory and freely chosen courses. The academic year is divided into weeks with teaching according to the regular schedule, project weeks and self-study weeks and weeks for exams and conditions. The teaching takes place individually or in groups. Instrumental teaching consists of individual main instrument teaching, joint lessons, seminars and individual teaching in rehearsal. After completing the education, an artistic bachelor's degree in music is given.

In jazz education, the student gets the opportunity to find and develop its own musical voice and at the same time get the basic practical knowledge of the world its needs for a future professional life in jazz and improvisational music. The student is offered jazz and improvisation studies in a creative and open work climate with good opportunities to influence large parts of the content of the education. Within the jazz education at the Malmö Academy of Music, a broader view of the jazz concept itself is welcomed. Today, jazz is no longer just about a specific style with its own tradition, but about a very large spectrum of different combinations of and encounters between different kinds of musical expressions and the transcendence of genres is a natural part of jazz's development.

The education is often visited by guest teachers. The teaching takes place in various forms from shorter clinics to several weeks of guest teaching in the ensemble blocks. During the regular project weeks, there is usually always one or more guest musicians teaching for several days. The regular teachers in the education are all active as professional jazz musicians. Even when it comes to teachers, a wide range of genres is offered.
